June 22, 2017: SOAP #2758: 2Kings 8,9; 2Chronicles 21; 1Timothy 4

Scripture:  1Timothy (NIV) 4:7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.
8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

Observation:   Paul is writing to a young preacher.   It is important not to become sidetracked on issues that have no value.   Physical conditioning has value but Godliness has great value.   Allowing the character of God to be developed in a leader's life not only has value for the present life, but for the life to come.   Godliness in a leader's life not only benefits the leader, but also those who are following.

Application:   If the enemy can get me focused on non-essential issues, time and resources are robbed from priorities.   It is God's desire that Jesus be recognized living in me.

Prayer:    Holy Spirit, help me keep the main thing the main thing!     Help me not to get sidetracked.   As I age, may it be easier for You to be seen in me.  Amen
