Scripture:  Acts (NIV) 15:5 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to obey the law of Moses.” 6 The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: “Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9 He made no distinction between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith.

Observation:   To receive non-Jewish people into the church without them being first circumcised was a major issue to some of the Jewish members of the church.   Many Jewish Christians saw the church as 'Jewish' and expected people joining the church to become Jewish.   But it was not their church.   They did not have the authority to say who could and who could not be a part of the church.   Only God had that authority, and His decision had been made clear when He gave Gentiles the gift of the Holy Spirit!

Application:   Even today there may be issues, like styles of music, we try to settle with our own arguments.   We need to consider what God has done and is doing.   His decision regarding some issues may be easily seen in His actions.   After all, Jesus is the Head of the church and He does have the final say.

Prayer:     Lord, I will keep my eyes on you and follow your lead. I will rejoice in what I see you doing in the lives of those around me.  Amen
