November 2, 2017: SOAP #2891:  Job 23-24; Mark 11-12

Scripture:  Mark (NIV) 12:41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.
42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny.
43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.
44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything"all she had to live on.”

Observation:   Jesus was watching people give.   Some gave out of their wealth, having sufficient left over to take care of their needs.   The widow gave out of her poverty, thinking only of the One to Whom she was giving and not of herself.  Sacrificial giving gets God's attention.

Application:   The Greatest Giver of all teaches me an important lesson about giving.   Being a giver does not depend on how much money I have.   I can give out of wealth or out of poverty.   Sacrificial giving is not based on what I give, but on what I keep.

Prayer:   Heavenly Father, I know you watch my giving.   May it bring joy to your heart!  Amen
