Scripture:  Jeremiah (NIV) 40:2 When the commander of the guard found Jeremiah, he said to him, “The LORD your God decreed this disaster for this place. 3 And now the LORD has brought it about; he has done just as he said he would. All this happened because you people sinned against the LORD and did not obey him.

Observation:   As the Babylonians were gathering prisoners from Jerusalem to take back to Babylon, the commander of the Babylonian guard revealed that he understood the big picture.   He understood what was really taking place.

What could be seen was that Babylon had conquered Judah.   But in reality, Babylon was no match for Judah's God!     The only way Babylon could conquer Judah was if Judah's God allowed them to do so!

To quote the commander, 'All this happened because you people sinned against the LORD and did not obey him.'   Even the ungodly people could see that Judah's God had something to do with their defeat.   The world could see the blessings God brought to Judah when they were faithful.   The world could see the judgment God brought to Judah when they sinned.

Application:   I want the world to see God blessing me because I am faithful rather than see Him judging me because I have sinned.

Prayer:      Holy Spirit, I welcome your light shining in my life.   Show me what needs to be changed, then help me make the changes.   Make me like Jesus, I pray.   Amen
