Many people today have questions about just what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is all about. Is it a Christian church? Is it a church which splintered off from a parent church, as so many churches within the world today have done at some point in their history?
Yes, the Church is a Christian church. Its followers profess Christ and strive to live a Christ-like life.
No, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is not a splinter group. It represents the restoration of Christ's church to the earth after the authority to act in his name had been lost. In 1820, there was a 14 year-old boy who lived in upstate New York during a time of heightened religious fervor. Amidst the tumult of varying opinions and beliefs, he prayed to know which church he should join and subsequently experienced a heavenly visitation in which he was commanded to join none of the other churches. Rather, he was to be an instrument in God's hands in restoring the true church of Jesus Christ back to the earth. The young boy's name was Joseph Smith, and he later translated into English a book of scripture known as the Book of Mormon; this book of scripture has since been translated into many languages and shared throughout the world.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I was baptized into the church in 1994 after many years of searching for the truth and not finding it within the church I grew up in or other churches which I attended after leaving home. I know that this church is headed by Jesus Christ, who communicates His will for the Church, through revelation, to his 12 apostles and the prophet (also known as the President of the Church) and his counselors. This past weekend members of the Restored Church of Jesus Christ attended or watched the semiannual General Conference, which featured inspired talks and messages that are specific to our day. These messages are presented for those who wish to hear them and may be accessed at www.lds.org.
