James Robert "Bob" Bortz was born March 9, 1951 at Winfield, Kansas. He died suddenly at his home in Chandler, Arizona on December 29, 2016 at the age of 65 years.
Bob proudly served his country in the Marine Corps in Vietnam during two tours of duty there. He was a highly decorated veteran receiving 2 Purple Hearts and the Silver and Bronze Star.
Most recently Bob was living in the Phoenix area where he was working in the real estate and property management business he founded and developed.
Bob enjoyed riding motorcycles. He was a member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles and was president of The Tri City Eagles #3468. He was an "Eagle Rider" with the Tri City Eagles motorcycle group where he was affectionately addressed as "Gunny."
Bob is survived by his wife Sandy and family, and many friends in Arizona. He is also remembered and missed by his Kansas family and friends including his mother Juanita Cooley, and sister Sharon Marchant, both of Dandridge, Tennessee; his brother Stephen Bortz and wife Rhea of Haviland, Kansas, his daughters Shandi Mounce of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Kisha Bowers of Appleton, Wisconsin, and a special uncle Ray Downum of Fort Worth, Texas.
Cremation has taken place and Bob was laid to rest with Patriot Guard escort and full military honors at The National Cemetery, Phoenix on March 9, 2017. Rest in Peace Brother. You were my hero.
