WICHITA — While the Bethel College men did not qualify, the women will enter the annual Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Tennis Championships as the No. 4 seed overall. 

The 2017 KCAC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships will be Friday and Saturday at the Kossover Tennis Complex in Topeka. The women's semifinals starts at 9 a.m. Friday, while the men's semifinals follow at 2 p.m. Women's finals are scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, with the men's finals beginning at approximately 2 p.m.

The Thresher women finished the season 6-7 overall and 5-3 in KCAC play. The women advance to the KCAC semifinals for the first time since 2015.

Picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll of the KCAC head coaches, the Bethel women's team was able to get off to the team's best start since 2013, winning the club's first three matches of the conference season before falling to No. 21 ranked McPherson — their first-round tournament foe.

The Threshers clinched a spot in the conference tournament April 20. Bethel last appeared in the conference tournament in 2015, and this is head coach Richard Southern's first time making it, in his first year as a collegiate head coach. 

Women's Semifinals – 9 a.m., April 28 

No. 2 Southwestern vs. No. 3 Tabor 

In the first round of the 2017 KCAC Women's Tennis Championship, the No. 2 seed (RV) Southwestern College (16-4, 7-1) takes on the No. 3 seed Tabor College (9-5, 6-2). The Moundbuilders are 8-1 in the month of April, while the Bluejays are 5-2 over the same span. The two teams met on April 3 in Winfield, where Southwestern came out on top winning 7-2.

No. 1 McPherson vs. No. 4 Bethel

KCAC Regular Season Champion and No. 1 seed (23) McPherson College (9-2, 8-0) takes on No. 4 seed Bethel College (6-7, 5-3). The Bulldogs are undefeated in conference play and on an eight-game winning streak, while the Threshers went 4-3 this month, including a 3-6 loss to Tabor in the final conference match on April 22. During the regular season Bethel fell to McPherson, 0-9 on April 10.

Men's Semifinals — 2 p.m. April 28

No. 2 Bethany vs. No. 3 Kansas Wesleyan

In the first round of the 2017 KCAC Men's Tennis Championship the No. 2 seed (RV) Bethany College (12-6, 7-1) takes on No. 3 seed Kansas Wesleyan University (12-4, 6-2). The Swedes are 6-1 in April, with it's only conference loss in that span being against (21) McPherson College. The Coyotes are 6-2 in the month of April, falling in the regular season finale to McPherson, 0-9, on April 20. The two teams met on April 8, with Bethany winning the match 7-2.

No. 1 McPherson vs. No. 4 Southwestern

KCAC Regular Season Champion and No. 1 seed McPherson College (9-3, 8-0) takes on No. 4 seed Southwestern College (12-11, 5-3). The Bulldogs' last loss came on March 24 against (12) Westmont College where they fell 0-9. The Moundbuilders went 5-4 this month, winning their last four conference regular season matches. During the regular season McPherson defeated Southwestern at home, 9-0, on April 2.

Locations are subject to change, due to weather. Winners will advance to the championship matches on April 29 with women's finals beginning at 9 a.m. and men's finals immediately following at 2 p.m. All-Conference awards will be presented following the conclusion of both championships.
