Johnny M. Ray of Rose Hill, Kansas, passed away May 1, 2018 at Wesley Woodlawn Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. Johnny was born January 14, 1932 in Pratt, Kansas to Marvin and Eva Ray. Right out of high school, Johnny joined the United States Navy and Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1955. On August 1, 1957, in Greensburg, he married Bernita Minks of Stafford, Kansas.
Johnny graduated from Pratt High School, Pratt Community College and Emporia State University, receiving a degree in biology. He worked for Kansas Wildlife and Parks for 33 years in Pratt and Ottawa, Kansas, retiring in 1994. He attended Cedar Pointe Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas. He also served as a member of the Gideons. Johnny enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, sports, and spending time with family.
Preceded in death by parents, Marvin Ray and Eva Ray-Rose, brother David Gene Ray, grandparents John and Laura Hoff, and brother-in-law John Wesley Williams.
Survivors include wife, Bernita of the home, son Marvin (Miranda) Ray or Wellington, Kansas, and daughter Cindy Woods of Rose Hill, Kansas. Granddaughter Colby Woods and grandsons Caleb Woods, Dresden and Decklin Ray. Sister Calora (Paul) Hayse of Pratt, Kansas, nieces Lynn Williams-Morris of Newton, Kansas, and Christa Williams of Wichita, Kansas.
Cremation has taken place and no service is being held per his request.
