A Great Bend woman, 18-year-old Alondra Hernandez, was injured during a three-car wreck at Pratt County Veterans Memorial Lake late Tuesday night, July 3.
A Great Bend woman, 18-year-old Alondra Hernandez, was injured during a three-vehicle accident on July 3 at the Pratt County Veteran's Memorial Lake.
Andy Monroe, 41 of Baird Texas, was eastbound in a 2005 Chevy Tahoe on Southeast Pier road. The accident occurred on the north side of the lake near the northeast corner of the lake. The Tahoe drifted to the left and struck the front end of a legally parked and unoccupied 2007 Pontiac G6 on the north side of the road causing it to roll backwards into the front end of a legally parked and unoccupied 2013 Chevy Sonic. Both vehicles suffered extensive front end damage. Both the Pontiac and the Sonic were facing west on the north side of the road, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol On-line crash log.
The Pontiac then rolled across Pier Road to the south and struck pedestrian Alondra Hernandez, 18 of Great Bend. The Pontiac kept rolling and went off the road and into the lake where it floated a short distance before coming to a stop beside a pier and half submerged in the lake.
The Tahoe continued eastbound and around the east end of the lake until it was stopped by Pratt County Deputies. Monroe was not injured in the accident and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident that was reported at 11:45 on July 3.
Pratt County EMS transported Hernandez to Pratt Regional Medical Center.
Van Slyke Body Shop and Wrecker Service recovered the Pontiac from the lake about 7:30 a.m. on July 4.
