The Pratt Community College basketball teams went to northwest Kansas on Wednesday to take on the Colby Trojans and it would be a long ride home as both teams lost.
Pratt Community College’s Track and Field team once again took to the road Friday, Jan. 27 as they competed in the Cavalier Night Relays at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park. Despite the extensive travel, and being short on bodies, the Beavers managed to perform at a high level. The PCC squad came away with one event winner, two runner up finishes and several more top ten placers.
Liberty Middle School’s wrestling season got off to a great start on Monday in Hoisington. LMS participated as guests in their former middle school league that included Hoisington, Larned and Hays Kennedy. As guests in this event, Pratt was unable to score team points or earn medals but earned valuable mat time.
The Skyline Thunderbirds defeated the Stafford Trojans 64-43 Tuesday night. The victory on their home floor extended the T-Birds winning streak to five games.
The Pratt Greenbacks overcame a sluggish start before putting away the Lyons Lions 53-23 on Tuesday. Payson Maydew got the first four points of the game for the Greenbacks but after a Lyons basket Pratt was ahead by only one point with 3:24 left. Skylar Dean and Micah Swank both hit 3-pointers and the Greenbacks were up 10-5 after the first quarter.
After a pressure-packed, hard-fought 54 Classic last week, the Skyline Lady Thunderbirds were in need of a little bit of a breather. They got just that against a badly overmatched Stafford Trojan squad, with the T-Birds posting a dominating 56-21 win.
The Pratt Lady Greenbacks could not overcome a 2-point second quarter as they dropped their third game of the year to the Lyons Lions 52-47.
The Pratt Community College men were defeated by Colby Community College 110-81 Wednesday night in Colby. PCC is 1-7 in the conference and 10-12 overall.
Local teams won three of four basketball games Tuesday.
The Pratt Lady Greenbacks used a game high 21 points from the Most Valuable Player Aubrey Hoover to beat the previously unbeaten St. John Tigers 40-29 in the finals of the 39th annual Tournament of Champions.
It was a nail-biter, but in the end the Norwich Lady Eagles were able to prevail in the 54 Classic championship game over the Skyline Lady Thunderbirds, 38-37.
The Pratt High wrestlers had a very solid day Saturday at Junction City, picking up some very good wins and being tested before the Big 3 coming up after this week.
The Pratt Community College Lady Beavers picked up their second Jayhawk West win on Saturday, beating the Barton Cougars in Great Bend 53-46. The men were not as fortunate as they fell to the 10th ranked Cougars 88-76.
The Pratt Greenbacks defeated previously unbeaten St. John Tigers 40-29 for the championship at the Pratt Girls Tournament of Champions Saturday night. Senior Aubrey Hoover was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
The Pratt Community College basketball teams lost both games to the Hutchison Blue Dragons on Wednesday as the women fell 74-45 and the men 89-67.
Pratt Wrestling Club placed 29 wrestlers at Great Bend Roger Richter Memorial Tournament Jan. 7th.
The Pratt Lady Greenbacks opened the Tournament of Champions with an extremely easy 71-13 win over the overmatched Wichita North junior varsity.
The Pratt High School girls pounded Wichita North JV 71-13 on the first night of the Pratt Tournament of Champions. The Greenbacks play again tonight at 6 p.m. against Wichita South, who defeated Larned 36-22.
Third time was not the charm for the Pretty Prairie Lady Bulldogs going up against the Skyline Lady Thunderbirds. In Tuesday’s opening round of the annual 54 Classic Tournament in Cunningham, the Lady T-birds defeated Pretty Prairie for the third time this season. In what would be their most convincing win to date over their HOPL foe, Skyline controlled the action from the outset and posted a solid 39-19 victory.
