Pratt High School softball pitcher Paige Huber added to her personal accolades earlier this week by being named as the Hutchinson News Area Player of the Year for 2017.

The much-decorated Huber led her team to the Central Kansas League and regional titles, and third place in Division 4Aii State with a 20-2 record.

In addition to being a unanimous all-CKL 1st team selection, Huber had also previously been named to the 2nd team all-state squad by the Kansas Softball Coaches Association.

Huber personally went 19-2 on the season, dropping games only to Haven during the regular season, and state champion Girard in the State semifinals. Haven took second at State, so the only teams to get the better of Huber all year were the #1 and #2 teams in the State.

Huber had a miniscule 0.69 ERA while setting a new PHS school record with 199 strikeouts. She flung 6 no-hitters and 13 shutouts on the season.

Huber was also an offensive force, hitting .446. She pounded 12 doubles and 3 triples, 1 home run and knocked in 28 runs. Her OPS (on-base + slugging %) was an other-worldly 1.200.

PHS head coach Mike Forshee mentions Huber’s work ethic and leadership as key factors in building the team chemistry that is needed for a team to be as successful as they were.

Paige Huber’s future plans include attending Pratt Community College, then moving on to Hutchinson Community College to study x-ray technology.

Fellow Lady Greenback senior Brooke Theis has been Huber’s battery mate as the pair has grown up together through the ranks. Theis was also honored with a first team selection by the Hutch News. Other members of Lady Green to be chosen included sophomores Jenna Fincham and Briana Cruz who were tabbed for 2nd team all- area. Breanna Bosley received honorable mention.
