The annual Last Chance Tournament was contested Sunday at Park Hills despite the inclement weather

It is not true to say that all golfers are sick in the mind. However, the 75 intrepid souls who teed it up Sunday in Park Hills annual Last Chance Tournament might want to make sure they don’t skip those next appointments with their analysts.

Under gloomy skies, with temperatures struggling to reach the upper 40s, the wind knifing down from the north and a drizzle coating everything with a cloying dampness, the conditions were anything but pleasant for the 3-man scramble.

“Not only was it cold, it was also not warm,” opined Scott Elliot, AKA Captain Obvious.

Players were unanimous in their condemnation of the meteorological profession. A week ago, Sunday’s forecast was for balmy temps with light winds.

Nonetheless, 25 teams braved the elements, persevered, and turned in some amazingly low scores.

The shot of the day belonged to the winning team of Donnie Clark, Mike Tanner and Joe Casteneda from Kinsley who holed out their second shot from 200+ yards on the Par 5 #10 for a double eagle.

As word of the spectacular shot circulated among the field, mutters of “Too good for us,” could be heard.

With the 2-putt rule in effect, scores were bunched rather tightly. Ties were broken on the card. Not that anyone was sorry he played, but several were overheard to mention that, next year, they were waiting until the morning of the event to confirm their participation. Results:
